YOGA FOR GRIEF

YOGA FOR GRIEF

Date: Last Sunday of the Month | June 24, 2018

Time: 11:00am - 1:00pm

Unlike other emotions that easily pass through our daily human experience, grief has a unique way of taking hold and demanding our attention.  By addressing it with loving and unconditional support, grief has a transformative power. Grief is not something to "get over." It is a natural part of the human condition. In fact, if you live long enough, you will experience grief at some point; the loss of a loved one, a career, a dream or even the state of the world. When the wave of grief comes, it comes with important lessons. When met with compassion and mindful awareness, grief can be a powerful teacher.

Join yoga therapists and hospice clinicians, Carrie Tyler, RN and Avantika Waleryszak, MSW, at this special monthly gathering.  Together we will explore the balance between two different core emotions, infusing gentle yoga with rituals,  journaling, art, meditation and breathwork.

SLOW FOODS SEACOAST Gleaned Garden Supper

DATE: Sunday, August 5, 2018

TIME: 2:00pm - 6:00pm

Slow Food Seacoast's Gleaned Garden Supper will feature delicious wood-fired pizzas cooked in Shilo Farm's cob oven, collaboratively built by owners Amylyn and Jonas Zev Amberger and friends, Sara Becker and Andrew Gardiner from Harvest Design Collective. In addition to the pizza, we'll have side dishes, desserts, and tastings available for folks to enjoy.

  • All of these wonderful food items will be prepared mostly from gleaned produce ("seconds" or excess produce) from local farms. The purpose of preparing the meal in this manner is to raise awareness about food waste and the issues surrounding our current food system.

  • The supper will be set up picnic-style with a live bluegrass band (Old Hat & Company), homestead tours, lawn games, ping pong, and much more! A special thank you to Maine Grains for donating the flour needed to prepare the pizza dough and to all of the participating farms, including Black Kettle Farm and others that help make the Gleaned Garden Supper possible.

Purchase tickets or sign up to volunteer and receive one free ticket to attend. Early bird tickets ($28) for adults are available until June 30th! No pets allowed on the property.

YOGA & AYURVEDA Mini Retreat

September 14th and 15th Karen Rafferty will be coming all the way from Maui to teach @ Shilo Farm! Registration is now open! Friday class 6-8pm and Saturday classes 8-11am and 2-4pm! Ayurvedic lunch provided by Kate O’Donnell. Space is limited. Message Karen at mtngirlnh@hotmail.com for more details and to register.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14th

  • 6:00 - 8:00pm: INTRO TO ASHTANGA - Enjoy an evening practice that will take us through the traditional standing postures of Ashtanga. Learn a sweet mixture of seated postures and shoulder stand variations using a wall. This is my favorite class to teach to wind down from a busy week and get you back into your body and heart.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 15th

  • 8:00 - 11:00am: ASHTANGA EXPLORATION - Don’t be scared of the three hour class! This class allows us time to take things slowly, provides room for any questions and provides space to discover how we use adjustments for energetic opening. We will practice pranayama, hip openers and blend of first and second series of Ashtanga yoga. I strongly believe in the body’s need for forward folds in combination with backbends and inversions. All postures will have modifications and my teaching style is firmly rooted in individual attention.

  • 11:15am - 12:15pm: SATURDAY AYURVEDIC LUNCH - prepared by Kate O’Donnell: Kate, author of “EVERYDAY AYURVEDA:” will prepare a beautiful feast for us all to share. She has studied Ayurveda extensively and has published two cookbooks with easy to follow recipes. We will share a meal together and enjoy the afternoon break.

  • 2:00 - 4:00pm: RESTORATIVE SUTRAS - Enjoy restorative postures to soothe the nervous system, while exploring the ancient teachings of the Yoga Sutras, the foundation of all Yoga. No chanting experience necessary.

BEGINNERS WELCOME! I strongly believe in the body’s need for forward folds in combination with back bends and inversions. All postures will have modifications and my teaching style is firmly rooted in individual attention.

Discover:: Soundbath Journey

Everything is vibration - our bodies, our thoughts, and the world around us - and we are at our best when we are in alignment, attuned to our own highest vibration. Join us for an evening of creating vibrational healing led by Ankati Day. Using song and crystal singing bowls, Ankati will invite you into a deep state of relaxation to clear and restore your energy.

Sound healing is the use of physical sound vibrations (crystal bowls and voice) for therapeutic benefit. Crystal Singing Bowls specifically connect to the crystalline cells/structures in our physical body and vibrate out into our energetic body, our Chakra systems. This can help one go deeper into an Theta state of deep meditation and healing.
