What is locomotion?
Locomotion is simply the movement from Point A to Point B. All mammals ‘locomote’ differently: some walk, some prance, some rock-and-roll, some glide, some slither. Research shows that the ability to locomote is stored in the spinal cord. You were born able to move creatively, you just forget. We’re here to help you rediscover the movement patterns stored inside your body.
What You’ll Learn
Locomotion is the expression of mobility and strength through opportunistic means. How creatively can you get from one place to another? We’ll cover different types of low gait movement, crawling, and rolling, as well as more artistic/dance-based elements.
What’s the Prerequisite?
Got a body? That’s all you need. In our experience teaching students at our Boston-based studio Body of Work, we find that humans of all ages and levels love this kind of movement exploration. It is easily scalable to different experience- and comfort-levels.
That's ok. Embrace the weirdness. Lay your ego down, and learn something new. You are amongst friends!
Body of Work is Boston's only studio inspired by movement culture. Lead teacher and owner, Sean Germain, is an online Ido Portal student.
We approach our practice through the macro lens, drawing inspiration from the worlds of gymnastics, marial arts, dance, play, and more. At Body of Work you have the chance to develop your movement practice with a tribre of like-minded humans.
We don't care about what you can do right now or how old you are. This is a human practice; you can do it by default of being alive. We care about how open your mind is and how willing you are to challenge everything.
